SCAPPA Scholarship Programs

The SCAPPA Scholarship Program is designed to support the professional development of its members by providing financial assistance for training, educational opportunities, and conference attendance. Additionally, SCAPPA offers financial assistance for post-secondary education to children of qualifying SCAPPA members. This program ensures that SCAPPA members and their families have access to resources that enhance their knowledge, skills, and professional growth within the field of physical plant administration

Scholarship Opportunities:

SCAPPA offers two distinct scholarship opportunities for its members:

Member Development Scholarship

SCAPPA provides scholarships for members to attend APPA’s Institute for Facilities Management (APPA U!) or Leadership Academy or Supervisor’s Toolkit. The scholarship covers full registration fees and includes up to $500 for lodging/travel-related expenses.

Educational Scholarship

SCAPPA provides financial assistance to children of qualifying members who are pursuing post-secondary education in a field related to Facilities Management.

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for a scholarship:
1. Member Development Scholarship
  • Be an active SCAPPA member in good standing. Demonstrate a commitment to
  • professional development and continued education.

2. Educational Scholarship

  • Applicant must be a dependent of a qualifying SCAPPA member.
  • Must be pursuing post-secondary education and enrolled or accepted in a two-year (community or technical college) or four-year undergraduate degree program.
  • Must provide proof of acceptance to a two- or four-year institution.
  • Must be enrolled half or full-time. (6-12 or more credit hours per semester).

Covered Expenses:

Scholarship funds may be applied to cover expenses associated with:

  • Registration fees for relevant training programs, workshops, or certifications.
  • Travel and lodging costs to attend professional conferences.
  • Costs related to continuing education courses that enhance job performance and leadership skills.
  • Tuition assistance for post-secondary education in Facilities Management for children of SCAPPA members.

Application Process:

To apply for a scholarship, applicants must submit the following:

  1. A completed SCAPPA Scholarship Application form.
  2. A statement of purpose (250 words max) outlining the following:
    • The training, conference, or education they wish to attend.
    • It’s relevance to their professional or academic goals.
    • How it will benefit their institution/company or career.
    • Attach supporting documentation like conference/training agendas, advertisements, post-secondary program proof of acceptance, etc.
  3. A letter of support from their supervisor, department head, or SCAPPA member (for member development scholarships) or from a school official (for educational scholarships).
  4. An estimated budget or invoice detailing the anticipated costs of attendance.

Applications should be submitted electronically to the SCAPPA Scholarship Committee by the specified deadline.

Academic Scholarship Deadline: June 15th

SCAPPA Member Scholarship Deadlines: February 1st and October 1st

Selection Process:

The SCAPPA Scholarship Committee will review applications based on the following criteria:

  • Alignment of the training, conference, or education with the applicant’s professional or academic goals.
  • Potential impact on the applicant’s institution, SCAPPA community, or career.
  • Financial need, if applicable.

Scholarship recipients will be notified within 30-90 days of the application deadline.

Recipient Responsibilities:

  • Submit proof of attendance and a testimonial (250 words max) of key takeaways within 30 days of completing the training, conference, or educational term.
  • Agree to share insights or lessons learned with the SCAPPA membership through a newsletter article or presentation at a SCAPPA meeting.

Eligibility:

Scholarships will be awarded to dependents of a SCAPPA member only. Scholarships must be utilized within 12 months from the date on which they are awarded, or they may be forfeited. There is no scholarship awards made during summer sessions. The scholarships are a one-time award and are not renewable. Scholarship recipients must provide proof of enrollment prior to disbursement of scholarship funds.

Funding Availability:
Scholarships are awarded based on available funds and the number of qualified applicants. The SCAPPA Board of Directors reserves the right to determine the number and dollar amount of scholarships awarded annually.
